FREE SECURITY SYSTEM ? - THE FACTS ! !
BUYER BEWARE - NOTHING IS "FREE"
When shopping for a security system, whether it is for your home, business, or whatever, you need to be aware of all of the schemes and misleading tactics that other companies use, in order to get your business. I answered an online link to receive 4 FREE offers for an affordale alarm system for my home. The following is what I found out about one such scheme:
For instance, "PROTECT AMERICA" offers a low price, but you have to install your own equipment . They can arrange for a"sub-contrctor" to perform the installation, if you desire, but there is an installation fee. They offer several different packages, but with each, the monitoring fee is different. At SWAT, we have one monitoring fee for all basic monitoring.
They do not service their systems at all, so if you have a problem, you must determine what the defective part is, and return it to them for replacement. At SWAT there is always service available, and depending upon where you live, a service person may be there to assist you within hours, but definitely within a couple of days. Of course, Emergencies take precedence.
They have a 3-year contract, and if you cancel before the three years are up, you pay the difference between when you cancel and the 3 years. We have no contract, thus there is no cancellation fee.
I asked about system tests and was told that they don't have that capability, nor do they have the capability to monitor for power failure, as do our systems. In fact, SWAT systems test themselves every week with a test signal, plus power and battery are supervised. The fact is: Their systems DO have the capability to perform these tests, but their telemarketers do not know how to present the option.
When I asked about a contract, he said I had to fill out a contract online and commit to signing, on the spot, without being able to thoroughly read and discuss the contract with my wife. When I asked if on could be faxed, so I could read it, I was told that they would only fax it if I committed today. So therefore a customer does not have an opportunity to view the contract before he agrees to it.
The FREE OFFER for a system offered by the BIG company, states that they will "give" you a system and charge you a $ 99.00 installation fee, and then monitor it for you for three years, for $ 34.99. Do Your Math. Does this sound free? When you want service you call an out of state office, and your request is answered within 48 hours, then you are told you will be serviced when a serviceman is in your area, often up to two weeks in the future.
With SWAT your call is answered directly, without a middleman. You will be given direct numbers for your representative or serviceman.

Without an automatic test signal, a system may die or stop communicating without ever being detected by the Central Monitoring facility. A** had a lawsuit in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where they admitted they had not had a signal from a particular system for over two years. Several buildings burned to the ground. Any failure of this periodic signal will result in the customer being notified and serviced, if needed.
We installed for one customer who had A**. Upon checking we found that his system had not been reporting for over TWO YEARS, due to adding DSL to his telephone line. The customer doesn't consider this. We will catch it within a week or less.
SWAT's systems report all troubles, restorals, all happenings are reported
